What are Halal Sweets?

Islamic law requires all sweets to be halal. This means that they must comply with the dietary guidelines as set out in the Qur’an. Many sweets contain gelatine, which is an animal derivative. Three key rules of ensuring that your halal sweet boxes are halal are to check:

• If they contain gelatine, was that animal slaughtered in a certain way, and was the gelatine processed according to halal methods?  
• The gelatine can only come from certain animals, such as beef or chicken. No pork gelatine is permitted.
• No alcohol is added at any stage during the manufacturing process.
